You are bidding on a hand cast, hand painted figurine of former New York Governor and U.S. Vice President Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller, recast from a 1968 Marx Toy Company figurine. It is 60mm tall (about 2 3/4 inches), weighs about an ounce, is cast from a resin plastic, and is painted with enamel paint. The name "ROCKEFELLER" appears on the front of the base in raised letters (the back is blank). As collectors know, Marx made a series of figurines of U.S. Presidents up through Richard Nixon. In anticipation of the 1968 election, Marx prepared a series of prototype figurines of that year's major party candidates including Democrats Hubert Humphrey and Robert F. Kennedy; and Republicans Charles Percy, Ronald Reagan, George Romney, and Rockefeller. These prototypes were eventually produced in small quantities and original Rockefeller figurines show up on eBay infrequently and command prices between $50 and $100 each. This recast figurine of Rockefelleris part of an ongoing effort to create a series of figurines of U.S. vice presidents, made to match the Marx presidents set. Each of these figurine is individually and sequentially hand numbered on the underside of the base.
